Mapping the World - Brazil, The Ever-Emerging Nation
Synopsis
Brazil is a vast country with a huge population and abundant natural resources. Yet it seems to be stuck in the emerging nation bracket. It has one of the worst levels of inequality in the world, trailed only by some African countries, and the inequalities are plain to see in the sharp contrasts between neighbourhoods in its megacities.
Politically, it seems to be at a crossroads, hesitating between the radically differing political models proposed by Lula, the champion of the left, and the far-right current president Bolsonaro. Can either enable Brazil to get past the emerging phase and actually emerge?
