Egyptology from the Napoleonic Expedition to the Present Day
Language, history, civilisation… Ancient Egypt has been revealing its secrets ever since Bonaparte’s expedition, which, in addition to soldiers, brought along scientists and artists in its wake, setting out to discover a land whose secrets continue to be unravelled to this day. And it was when Champollion deciphered the hieroglyphs in 1822 that the era of modern Egyptology began, with archaeologists as active as ever.
