Cities of Tomorrow - New Cities
Episode 1/3
Synopsis
Although they occupy only 2% of the surface of the globe, cities are home to more than 50% of the population and represent 75% of global energy consumption. Futuristic, green and hyperconnected cities are thus emerging. King Abdullah Economic City (Saudi Arabia), Tianjin Eco-city (China), Songdo (South Korea)…: created from scratch and financed through public-private partnerships, these pilot cities, which favor green spaces and ecological equipment, acquire the latest innovations in information and communication technologies to optimize their networks (transport, energy, etc.).
In Songdo, the world's first ubiquitous city, sensors transmit the personal data of city dwellers to a central computer, with the aim of simplifying their lives (a single card allows you to pay for your purchases, enter your building, access your energy consumption and that of its neighbours, etc.). But if some want to set up these laboratories of the future as an urban model, others, conversely, see in them only soulless technological showcases, at the center of a lucrative business.
